The Stonewall Jackson chapter of The Association of the United States Army (AUSA) won the Second Region Chapter of the Year award at the organization’s recent annual meeting.

The Roanoke based chapter provides the voice for the Army and support for the soldier from Harrisonburg through southwest Virginia, stretching west of the Blue Ridge Mountains into West Virginia and the North Carolina line.

The chapter was recognized for its achievements among 22 chapters in the midsection of the nation.

“This is a tribute to all of our members, who work tirelessly to support the soldier, advocate for the U.S. Army and look after our veterans,” said Col. (Ret.) John Miller, president of the chapter. “We’re delighted to be recognized for our commitment and dedication to fellow soldiers and our communities.”

The honor will include a check for $500. In addition to chapter of the year, the Stonewall Jackson chapter earned 14 other awards, primarily for work with the U.S. Army Recruiting Command, the National Guard, the U.S. Army Reserve Center in Salem, 20 high school Army ROTC and eight college ROTC units, the VA Medical Center and Virginia Veterans Care Center in Salem.

The chapter also was cited for its community outreach highlighted by the June 14 Flag Day/Army Birthday celebration and the 50th anniversary of the Vietnam War at the Vinton War Memorial.

The Stonewall Jackson Chapter of the Association of the United States Army, a non-profit 501(c)3, provides the Voice for the Army – Support for the Soldier west of the Blue Ridge Mountains.
