Med-Trans, the air medical partner operating Carilion Clinic’s Life-Guard helicopters, has reached an agreement with Anthem BlueCross BlueShield of Virginia.  Carilion Life-Guard flights are now considered in-network for Anthem subscribers.  Patients will only be billed for the deductible and co-pay amounts applicable under their insurance plan.

The terms of the agreement will be applied to all flights involving Anthem patients effective immediately. Med-Trans will also apply the terms of the agreement to Anthem patients who have outstanding balances from previous flights and will issue an updated billing statement.  Patients who have already settled their bill can contact Med-Trans at 1-866-261-3032 to have their account reviewed.

“While it took longer than we anticipated, we’re pleased that we have been able to reach a fair agreement that supports our helicopter program going forward while also providing a resolution for patients who flew with us during the interim,” said Robert Hamilton, Med-Trans’ Chief Operating Officer.

“We appreciate Med-Trans and Anthem working together in the best interests of our patients,” said Paul Davenport, Carilion Clinic’s Vice President for Emergency Services. “We are also grateful for the community’s ongoing support of the dedicated flight nurses, paramedics and pilots whose only focus is to provide 24/7 critical care to those in need.”
