Salem stayed unbeaten in River Ridge girls soccer play Friday night at the Knights hilltop field, edging Cave Spring 2-1.
Spartan junior forward Brittany Shampine found the net midway through the second half to break a 1-1 deadlock for the eventual game-winner.
Salem had taken a 1-0 lead to the halftime break on a goal by freshman Hannah Winstead. Cave Spring countered with the tieing goal in the opening minutes of the second half when senior forward Alyssa McKinley blasted home a penalty kick for the Knights.
Both goalkeepers stayed busy throughout the contest, with Salem junior Carrie West stopping eight shots, while her Cave Spring counterpart, junior Haley Mitchell, saved seven attempts for the Knights.
Salem improved to 10-1-1 (5-0-1 River Ridge) with the win. Cave Spring dropped to 6-5-1 (3-3).
