Salem scored three third inning runs aided by a pair of Cave Spring miscues, and the Spartans held on for the 3-2 win over the Knights Tuesday afternoon at Cave Spring Field in the River Ridge District opener for both teams.

Cave Spring scored single runs in the fourth and sixth to close the gap to one, but after Jordan Bryant reached with one out in the bottom of the seventh for the potential tying score, Salem got a strikeout for the second out. and coaxed a groundout to end the game.
