The Salem Red Sox scored five runs in their half of the eighth inning Friday night to down Myrtle Beach 7-2 in the Red Sox Carolina League home opener at Salem Memorial Stadium before an announced crowd of 4,042.
Returning infielder Sean Coyle wielded the big bat for Salem with a pair of home runs, the first giving the Red Sox a 1-0 lead in the third, before connecting on a 2-run blast to center in the decisive eighth that broke a 2-2 deadlock.
