Raiders Down Middleburg – Head to State Semis

#2 Lynsey Barker backsets #11 Ragan Comer as she comes in for the spike.

The North Cross Raiders cruised to an easy victory Tuesday night at the James Muscaro gym over Middleburg Academy by a score of 25-11,25-15,26-24. The Raiders, which boast almost all senior starters, took advantage of Middleburg’s youth and had them on the ropes early.

Senior Gussie Revercomb’s 10 consecutive service points in the first game took all of the fire out of the Dragons. Senior setter Lynsey Barker attacked constantly, putting on a clinic of setter options- dumping, pushing, spiking, and setting – that Middleburg had no answer for. Senior Regan Comer controlled the middle with 11 kills and Revercomb added 11 kills as well from  the outside.
The Raiders look like they have come together as a team at just the right time. They will now travel to The Steward School in Richmond for the state semi-final on Friday at 2pm – facing Hampton Christian. (25-2 and #2 in state.)
If victorious, the Raiders may face-off against hometown rival Roanoke Catholic in the finals at 12pm on Saturday – if the Celtics win their semi-final match Friday at 4pm against Westover Christian. (24-4 and #4 in the state.)
