Letter – Poor Public Management

Dear Editor,

Another stunning example of how the City of Roanoke fails to maintain its infrastructure is the mess in front of the downtown library. Every spring, Parks and Recreation employees reseed the grass in front of the library entrance. The taxpayers then pay for a few lawn treatments to keep the grass green during summer months. Then, is as evident now, City of Roanoke employees drive right up to the front door daily, leaving behind mud and tire ruts. It leaves the area near the main entrance looking trashy. The same can be observed in our parks and greenways, where maintenance workers fail to utilize appropriate entry points. The City talks ‘green and clean’; an observant individual knows better.

It looks like the city has allowed the railroad to ‘own’ the road for several months now. As a municipality, I don’t really think that is even legal. I
I hope we don’t really need someone with power having their son or daughter in an ambulance getting stuck getting through that tunnel and the additional time causing harm to the patient. But that is usually how things run in Roanoke. It is quite thoughtless and no care or concern is taken for the citizens except shortly before election time.
