Science Museum / Center in the Square Seek Creative Support

No one is mincing words as the campaign is under way for the $50,000 Pepsi Refresh Grant the Science Museum of Western Virginia is hoping to win. And they need your help right away.

Various venues are helping get the word out. The enthusiasm is contagious as the Center says: “We’re in!  Roanokers can vote for Center in the Square’s Aquademics and help them win a $50,000 grant from the Pepsi Refresh Project.” It’s all for a worthy cause, and doesn’t take much effort by individuals, but votes are needed online – a lot of them.

The catchy phrase “Helping students swim to the top!” sums up the endeavor.  Center in the Square is one of 1,000 grant submissions selected by the Pepsi Refresh Project.

Center Aquademics, the educational programming for their “spectacular new aquariums is to be installed with the center’s green building renovations.”

Winning the grant will help the Center evaluate the new Virginia Standards of Learning requirements established for 2011-2014, hire educators to write the programming, provide training for staff and volunteers, and produce materials so they will be ready to dive in with educational programming for visiting school groups and the public as soon as they open the doors.

They will also continue to work with their partner, United Pet Group and its local team at Tetra in Blacksburg to build web-based interactive study guides and programs for kids online.
