Many thanks to the Star Sentinel for publishing the article about Cox Communications’ electronic waste collection event on March 24 (“E-Waste Day Attracts Steady Stream of Recyclers”, April 30). Our organization was one of several co-sponsors of this great event, and a number of our members volunteered to help unload and sort the items brought by citizens for disposal. Cox is to be commended for their superlative work on this project which keeps some hazardous waste and much re-usable material out of our landfills.
As a point of clarification, I would like to mention that I am no longer an officer of the Roanoke Group of the Sierra Club as the article stated. My term as Chair of that group ended in 2008. Since 2009, Bill Modica of Salem has held that post.
