The Roanoke County School Board has elected Vinton District representative Mike Stovall as the school board chairman for 2010. Stovall replaces outgoing two-time chairman Drew Barrineau. Catawba District representative David Wymer was selected to serve his first term as vice-chairman.
Stovall was first elected to the Roanoke County School Board in 1994 and has been re-elected four times, most recently in 2009. He has previously served twice as board chairman (1997, 2001) and three times as vice-chairman (1995, 2000, 2009).
A former investigator for the Vinton Police Department, Stovall currently owns Alert Driver Training, a driving instruction business. He also volunteers as a coach for the William Byrd baseball team.
“The coming year is going to be one of the most challenging this board has ever seen, and I look forward to meeting that challenge,” Stovall said. “Together this board will work to make the best decisions we can to ensure our students continue to receive a top-quality education,” Stovall added.
In addition, the board set the school board meeting dates for 2010. A list of those dates can be found online at: http://www.rcs.k12.va.us/news/current/SBmeetingdates2010.shtml.
