Carilion Physician Elected to CMR Institute Board of Directors

Dr. Andre A. Muelenaer Jr. has joined the board of directors of CMR Institute, the leading provider of non-brand related education for biopharmaceutical representatives and managers.

Dr. Muelenaer’s medical career spans 36 years, including 27 years of active and reserve duty in the Army Medical Corps.

He holds academic appointments at the Virginia Tech-Carilion School of Medicine, Virginia Tech-Wake Forest University School of Biomedical Engineering and Science and the University of Virginia. He is board certified in pediatrics and pediatric pulmonology. Dr. Muelenaer has held leadership positions as division chief of pediatric pulmonology/gastroenterology at Duke University, and division chief of pediatric pulmonology/allergy at Carilion Clinic Children’s Hospital.

 In addition to his clinical activities, Dr. Muelenaer has supported the advancement of medical technology globally, first as the medical director of the Carilion Biomedical Institute and now as co-founder, president, and chief medical officer of the Pediatric Medical Device Institute. He maintains a telemedical practice in Raleigh, N.C., and serves as part-time medical director for several biotechnology companies in Virginia. He also has served on the board of directors of non-profit medical advocacy and service organizations.

Dr. Muelenaer is a graduate of Virginia Tech and earned his medical degree from Eastern Virginia Medical School. He is recipient of the Bronze Star for his service during the Gulf War.
