Cuccinelli and Roanoke Writer Publish Book on Limited Government

Virginia A.G. Explains Role of Constitution in Curbing Overzealous Federal Government in “The Last Line of Defense”

Cucc BookVirginia Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli has authored a new book in collaboration with former Roanoke Star columnist Brian Gottstein that lays out a case detailing how the Obama Administration and its allies in Congress have been repeatedly ignored federal laws, disregarded federal courts, and violated the Constitution to achieve their goal of concentrating power in Washington at the expense of American citizens and their liberty.

Cuccinelli describes the legal battles he and other attorneys general have waged from the states to stop agencies like the EPA, the FCC, and the National Labor Relations Board “from attempting to exercise illegal and unprecedented control over the American people.”

The Last Line of Defense provides a behind-the-scenes, plain-spoken account of the myriad of legal battles in which states have pushed back against what they believe are federal abuses of power. The book also describes why the Founding Fathers created a federal government of limited powers and why constitutional limits on that power are still important today – to protect liberty.

“Crown Forum is thrilled to be publishing Attorney General Cuccinelli,” said Tina Constable, SVP, Publisher,Crown Forum. “We thought he was the ideal person to tell the story of how states are fighting against the federal government on a variety of issues, particularly on the Affordable Care Act. When Dana Perino, consultant to Crown Forum, began initial conversations with the Attorney General and his team about a book, we knew this would be an important collaboration. The Last Line of Defense is an eye-opening account from one of the top legal minds and public servants in our country. Mr. Cuccinelli reminds us why it’s vitally important to return to our founding principles of limited government.”

Cuccinelli writes of how America was created on the principles of preserving liberty, of government deriving its power from the people, and – as President John Adams said – of a government of laws and not of men. The publisher says that The Last Line of Defense is an important read for those who are concerned about the federal government’s recent trend of routinely disregarding federal law to force Americans to do its will.

“Without enough lawmakers in Washington devoted to protecting the rule of law to stop this liberty-stealing power grab, the battles had to be waged in an unprecedented way: from the states – just as our Founding Fathers intended,” said Cuccinelli.

The Last Line of Defense: The New Fight for American Liberty,  has been published by Crown Forum, a division of Random House, Inc. It is available in hardcover and eBook for pre-order on Amazon.com, BarnesandNoble.com, at the iTunes Bookstore, and on Kindle. It will be in bookstores nationwide on February 12.

Ken Cuccinelli  was elected Attorney General of Virginia in November 2009. Prior to that, he was a member of the Virginia Senate from 2002 until 2010, and he is running for governor of Virginia in 2013.
