Local Motorcycle Group “Moto.Men” Announce Trip to Arctic Circle

Roanokers Nate Jennings (L) and Scotland Leman (R) at Mill Mountain Motorcycles in Roanoke.

The Journey will include traveling to all Four Coasts of the United States to Raise Funds and Awareness for Charitable Causes

On May 25, 2019, Roanoke’s own “Moto.Men” will begin an adventure that spans the East and West coasts of the United States, the Gulf of Mexico, and the Arctic Ocean. Project’19 is a 35-40 day motorcycle trip that will wind 16,000 miles around North America, making regular stops to support those in need.

Founded in 2018, Moto.Men is a group of motorcycling enthusiasts who share a dream of exploring the world, energizing others, helping less fortunate individuals, and passing on all that they learn along the way. The core team consists of three members: Nate Jennings and Scotland Leman from Roanoke, and Andy Raman from Houston, TX.

Mr. Jennings and Mr. Leman will each be riding a 2018 Triumph Tiger 1200 XCa, and Mr. Raman will be on a BMW R1200 GS Adventure. Tires will be provided by Kenda: Big Block Pavers for the road portions and the Big Blocks for the Alaska portion.

En route, the trio will raise funds for disabled veterans, military service dogs, and cancer victims through the Wounded Warrior Project, United States War Dog Association/Mission K9 Rescue, and the American Cancer Society, respectively. Additionally, the Moto.Men will deliver four individual endowments to cancer survivors/victims and disabled American veterans, as they make their way across the country.

They will be distributing at least $10,000 to these causes. Outside of a few remote locations, they will post daily updates about their adventures to social media.

“Moto.Men’s Project’19: Trip to the Arctic Circle combines charity, community, and club: we are riding for a cause,” said Executive Member Nate Jennings. “We are extremely excited to ride to four United States coasts: the East and West Coasts, the Gulf of Mexico, and the Arctic Circle. While motorcycle charity rides are not uncommon, it’s unique to have one of this magnitude.”

“We are using our passion for motorcycles to make a positive impact,” continued Executive Member Scotland Leman. “Moto.Men are raising funds for those who have served our community and country, yet have been left behind. For Project’19, along with providing support to individuals in need, we will be fundraising for the Wounded Warrior Project, United States War Dog Association/Mission K9 Rescue, and the American Cancer Society.”

The Moto.Men will depart from the Roanoke Star on May 25 and head to Virginia Beach. From there, they will ride to the Triumph Motorcycle headquarters in Atlanta, GA, before traveling down to the Gulf of Mexico and setting their sights towards the northern-most road in the entirety of North America: the James Dalton Highway, which ends well inside of the Arctic Circle, via Prudhoe Bay, Alaska. After reaching the top of the Ice Road and dipping their toes into the Arctic Ocean, the trio will traverse back to the contiguous United States and head down the Pacific Coast Highway until moving inland via Route 66. They will travel back to Roanoke via Deals Gap and the Blue Ridge Parkway, arriving home just in time for Independence Day.

Sponsors include Triumph Motorcycles, Kenda Tires, Frontline Eurosports, Snap-on Tools, Two Fox Motorcycling, Scorpion USA, Western Power Sports, SIDI, Tom McGrath’s Motorcycle Law Group, and the individual donors for their generous support of this initiative.
