Roanoke to Host Informational Meeting on Citizen Science Water Monitoring Program

The Roanoke Stormwater DivisionClean Valley Council, and the Upper Roanoke River Roundtable have partnered to create a Citizen Science Water Monitoring Program. An informational meeting to learn more about this program will be held at the Raleigh Court Branch Library on Feb. 28 at 5:30 p.m.

Focusing on the health of the Roanoke River and its tributaries, community members will engage in local streams and become part of the solution in achieving clean water through this program. Volunteers will monitor streams by taking samples of benthic macro-invertebrates to determine the ecological health for the section of stream that is sampled. You do not have to be a scientist to be a stream monitor, just be willing to learn and have fun.

The public is invited to attend this informational meeting and learn more about how to create a Clean Water Legacy.  To sign up to attend, click here.  More information is available on the Stormwater Division’s Facebook page or by contacting Danielle DeHart with the Stormwater Division at (540) 853-5915 or [email protected].
