The Foundation for Roanoke Valley has announced that it has awarded a grant of $15,000 to the Grandin Theatre Foundation to pilot a Film Lab program for area high school students.
“The Grandin Theatre Film Lab idea is based on one fundamental premise – providing kids the opportunity to find their voice using the medium of the cinematic arts,” said Ian Fortier, Grandin Theatre executive director. “In this pilot program, we aspired to create a relevant, sequential, curriculum based format that has multiple interactions with film industry professionals, and multiple opportunities for kids to get behind cameras and in front of the editing software. As our major and primary grantor to support this crucial pilot year, Foundation for Roanoke Valley’s gracious contribution has allowed our students to have access to the cutting edge equipment and software they need to succeed. Their ability to learn this craft first-hand, in an experiential fashion, would not have been possible without the help of the Foundation.”
FRV Program Officer Michelle Eberly said the grant was a good match per their grant criteria: “The grant comes from the Foundation’s unrestricted Community Catalyst Funds, which allows the Foundation to support a wide range of needs in the community. This particular program fit well with our education focus area, and we look forward to hearing back from the students at the end of the school year on their final project.”
For more than 28 years, Foundation for Roanoke Valley has enabled those who love the community to easily give back.
