Peyton Dixon, as John Adams, and Steve Edenbo, as Thomas Jefferson, will host an early presidential debate, “We Differ as Rational Friends: The Politics and Friendship of John Adams and Thomas Jefferson.”

The two candidates are the original political rivals in American history. The debate will begin at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, October 21 at the South County Library on Merriman Road.

Adams and Jefferson will discuss, debate, and sometimes criticize the revolutionary storms they weathered through their 50 year relationship as bitter political rivals who were able to remain close friends.

The candidates will deliberate on the Declaration of Independence and The Constitution, freedom of speech, Presidential powers (including term limits and rotation in office), and the virtues of a two-party system.

This debate will portray America’s original politicians and how our founding fathers intended our politics to be handled. Their debates still consisted of badgering and mudslinging, but you will get a glimpse of a debate before there were moderators, social media, and big news conglomerates.

Tickets for “We Differ as Rational Friends” are FREE, but to reserve your seat you must visit the South County Library or call 540-772-7507. Space is limited.
