On Saturday, September 10, members from Botetourt Fire & EMS banded together to climb 110 stories (5 times up and down) in downtown Roanoke at the Wells Fargo tower in remembrance of those who made the ultimate sacrifice on 9/11/2001. This year the group also climbed in memory of late Chief of Fire & EMS Jeff Beckner.

The team, Beckner’s Botetourt Brigade, was comprised of career and volunteer fire and EMS personnel, as well as other county employees and friends. This year Chief Beckner’s wife Julie and son Zach also joined the team in the climb.

In addition to climbing in honor of the fallen, the team was formed to raise funds to support the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation. A total of $900 was raised in honor of Chief Beckner to be donated to this organization that helps support the families and loved ones of those who fall in the line of duty.

Chief Beckner’s family and the Department of Fire & EMS would like to thank everyone who participated or donated to the cause. Beckner’s Botetourt Brigade raised the most money as a team this year.
