DICK BAYNTON: Political Discourse has Become Digression and Distortion

Over the past few months I have read comments in newspapers, magazines and on the Internet suggesting that Republicans lack “moral integrity.” The various messages and blogs boast that the Obama administration has created 10 million jobs, the stock market is at an all time high and millions of Americans have health insurance for the first time.

We should be reminded that Jonathon Gruber, the architect of the 2010 healthcare act, commented that American voters are stupid. What some of us didn’t know is that Gruber, an MIT economist, was paid almost $400,000 for his work on the plan and commented that “the lack of transparency is a tremendous political advantage.”

Years later when questioned about Dr. Gruber’s role in developing the healthcare law, President Obama commented that Professor Gruber had a role that was miniscule in scope. That lie from our President was compounded by other lies and false promises about the Affordable Care Act.

By 2016, Obamacare has become the UCA (Unaffordable Care Act). Insurance carriers are losing millions of dollars and abandoning the state exchanges. Liberals blame the insurance companies who are following the errant government rules that leave insurers losing money, their costs of insurance for businesses and workers skyrocketing and benefits for consumers shrinking.

Yes, it is true that some Americans have insurance for the first time, but nothing has been said about those citizens who have been insured for the last time. The Congressional Budget Office (CBO) estimates that there are at least 22 million U.S. citizens uninsured, most likely through 2019.

People may believe that 10 million new jobs have magically come into being, but what we are not told is that there are 94 million able-bodied workers who have abandoned the workforce. There are about 11 million people on disability and even the government doesn’t know how many actually deserve that designation. Our recovery, according to impartial economists and experts, indicate that the economic recovery has been the slowest since 1949.

And yes, the stock market is strong but it is not always a leading economic indicator. For example, our level of productivity is shrinking and our GDP growth is just a little over 1%. Current budget deficit projected by CBO is $590 billion. Wages for minorities is significantly lower than the national average and unemployment among Blacks and Hispanics is considerably higher than the national average

Some say that Obama inherited a $10 trillion debt, but there is no explanation of why and how the debt, in less than eight years, has nearly doubled to $19.4 trillion and will surely double by the end of Obama’s term. The 43 million food stamp recipients and the 46 million U.S. citizens on welfare are never mentioned by left wingers.

Regarding moral integrity, why did Hillary Clinton destroy thousands of emails from her private server as Secretary of State? Destroying evidence is a crime; lying under oath is called perjury and using the office of Secretary of State as a stimulus to build The Clinton Foundation through “pay to play” is unlawful. Where is the moral integrity regarding the scandals including IRS, Benghazi, Fast & Furious, the Russian reset, the Syrian red line, and the $800 billion for shovel-ready jobs that didn’t exist? The list of misfires and implausible scandals would make an entire season of three hour mystery movies.

Regarding our international relations, it is interesting that Trump is receiving criticism for commenting about the veracity of NATO but the press and other critics haven’t headlined the alliance being formed between Russia, Turkey, China, Iran and Syria. Secretary of State Kerry has been speaking with his Russian counterparts while Putin rattles the sabers of invasion at the Ukrainian border. Just as a reminder to Trump critics, invasion involves death, destruction and displacement of multitudes of innocent citizens based on false premises and promises.

Here’s what is worrisome: liberals are silent about failures and creating warped narratives about the economy, international relations and domestic issues (food stamps, student debt, national debt, national security, restroom designations and entitlements) that may sedate citizens into voting for the continuing downfall of this great nation.
