Opera Roanoke Announces 2016-2017 All-American Season:

Season BannerOpera Roanoke has announced its first-ever “All-American” 41st Season.

This fall Opera Roanoke will bring one of the great “American Operas” from Broadway to the Jefferson Center stage: Rodgers and Hammerstein’s South Pacific. The World War II-era classic brings a signature balance of wit and warmth, with compelling characters whose stories engage, entertain, and inspire us.

The production will be will at the Shaftman Performance Hall at the Jefferson Center on Friday, October 7 at 7:30pm and on Sunday, October 9 at 3:00pm, starring Corey Crider (Sweeney Todd ’15) and Ariana Wyatt (Pirates of Penzance ’13) as Emile de Beccque and Nellie Forbush, respectively.

Opera Roanoke will also take this production on the road to the Moss Arts Center at Virginia Tech on Wednesday, October 12 at 7:30pm.

Opera Roanoke will conclude their 41st season of American opera with the local premier of Carlisle Floyd’s Susannah. Based on a story from Biblical Apocrypha, Susannah is a compelling drama whose issues resonate across cultural, social, political, and religious lines. Set in the Appalachian mountains, Susannah’s music reflects its locale and Floyd’s score is a masterpiece of dramatic power and lyrical beauty.

Amy Cofield Williamson (Julius Caesar ’14, La Traviata ’16) returns to the stage in the title role opposite Opera Roanoke favorite, Zachary James (Pirates of Penzance ’13, Cinderella ’15, Sweeney Todd ’16). Susannah plays on Friday, April 28 at 7:30pm and Sunday, April 30 at 3:00pm at the Shaftman Performance Hall at the Jefferson Center.

Season subscriptions and individual tickets (excluding Moss Arts Center performance) are available now by calling the Jefferson Center box office at (540) 345-2550 or visiting www.jeffcenter.org.
