That empty restaurant space at the Patrick Henry building – most recently home to Henry’s Publick House – has a new tenant. FPS, as in Food Prep Services, was created about 8 months ago and resettled at the Patrick Henry in May.

FPS puts together precooked, healthier meals, focused on affordable, light lunches, and can deliver them in the downtown Roanoke area and within a radius of ten miles. As of late June, FPS now also offers a dine-in lunchtime café with hours from 11am to 3pm in the same restaurant space at the Patrick Henry.

Jim Thomas and Brandon Pruett started FPS. Thomas, who says he likes to stay fit and healthy, adds that the new dine in service allows them to be more creative, adding items to the menu that feature sauces. “It’s hard to keep sauces for long periods of time. We [also] have salads and wraps. Everything is very healthy – and according to the people that have eaten here, pretty tasty.”

FPS can deliver a week’s worth of lunches (5) for about twenty dollars and up; it’s not just those looking to stay active and healthy that the service has appealed to so far. “Honestly the people who use it most are your average office workers who just wants to eat a little bit better but don’t want to spend 10-15 dollars a meal,” says Thomas.

One typical week’s worth of meals (which can go up in price) might feature steak, chicken, tilapia, quinoa, vegetables and the like.  Dinner, weekend hours, and an ABC license, so that alcohol can be served, are on the drawing board for FPS.
