In Response to “A Gift of the Sea” by Liza Field

As a resident of Hampton Roads it’s encouraging to see the issue of sea level rise being of concern to folks who don’t live here. As the author so aptly stated, climate action has formidable obstacles. Many of those obstacles have names and the largest that comes to mind is Dominion. They use their political power to stifle the growth of clean renewable energy that would help mitigate climate change and instead they plan to increase their carbon emissions by investing heavily in fracked gas. Dominion claims that their big investments in gas is needed to comply with the Clean Power Plan but that is simply untrue. Virginia is well suited to meet our goal using energy efficiency and clean energy and we need our leaders to stand up to Dominion. Governor McAuliffe has a huge opportunity to boost clean energy and climate action in Virginia by implementing a strong Clean Power Plan that actually reduces our carbon emission in the long term and focuses on clean energy and energy efficiency.
