Twenty-seven young ladies from across the Commonwealth arrive in Roanoke on Sunday, June 19th, for a week of appearances, rehearsals, and competitions leading up to the crowning of Miss Virginia 2016 on Saturday evening, June 25th, at Berglund Center.

The contestants will compete in a private interview with the judges, talent, evening wear, onstage questions, and lifestyle and fitness in swimsuit competitions. The winner will represent Virginia in the National Miss America Pageant on ABC-TV Sunday, September 11th.  More than $350,000 in cash and in-kind scholarships to colleges and universities are available to this year’s contestants, along with several other prizes from area businesses and private donors.

The current Miss Virginia, Savannah Lane of Midlothian, will return to the University of Virginia this fall to finish her undergraduate degree in Foreign Affairs and Middle Eastern Studies (with a concentration in the Arabic language). Her tuition is paid in full due, in large part, to the $37,000 in scholarships she has won in the Miss Virginia and Miss America competitions.

Lane finished as a Top 15 finalist in last fall’s Miss America Pageant where she performed “Don’t Rain On My Parade” in the talent competition. She’s currently presenting her platform “The Power of Performance” to school children across the state.

Tickets go on-sale Wednesday, June 1st at 10:00 am and can be purchased at Berglund Center box office, online at HomeTownBankTix.com or by calling 1-877-HTB-TIXNow (1-877-482-8496). Visit www.missva.org for more information.
