Anticipation Building for Festival in the Park

FITPFestival in the Park has been held during the Memorial Day weekend since 1969. This year’s event will take place May 27- 29, with plenty of activities planned for all ages.

Music will once again be the highlight acts set to take the stage at the Elmwood Park amphitheater. The lineup includes:

May 27

Rutledge, 5:30 p.m. • JD Sutphin and the Low Low Chariot, 5:30 p.m. • Parrots of the Caribbean, 8 p.m.

May 28

Southwest Virginia Ballet, noon • The Color J, 1 p.m. • Salem High School Band, 2 p.m. • WYRED, 3:30 p.m. • Haus of Schmitt, 4:30 p.m. • Jerry Wilson Rock and Soul Band, 5:30 p.m. • Gasoline Alley, 6:30 p.m. • SaraJane McDonald with Sweet FIRE, 7:30 p.m. • Little Texas, 8 p.m.

May 29

Miss Mona’s School of Dance, 1 p.m. • B3nt Jimmy, 2 p.m. • Bishop Hardy and the Sons of Thunder, 3 p.m. • Committed, 4 p.m. • Mickey Nelson and Melissa Mesko, 5 p.m. • Shaolin Dragons Martial Arts Academy, 6 p.m. • The Sessions Band, 7 p.m. • 1964 The Tribute, 8:15 p.m.

Festival in the Park also features a number of activities for children. The popular Fireman’s Foam will be back again this year. There will also be arts and crafts, small games, inflatable obstacle courses, bouncy houses, and a huge playground. Roanoke Fire-EMS will provide equipment for the kids to climb on.

When you’re not listening to music or playing with the kids, feel free to check out the many vendors spread throughout the park.
