Five-time state championship coach leaves Cave Spring program after 14 seasons

Tamalyn Tanis has announced she is stepping down as the coach of the Cave Spring High School volleyball team in order to spend more time with her family.

Tanis, a 1989 graduate of Cave Spring, was named the coach of the Lady Knights in 2002. Under her direction, the Cave Spring volleyball team won five state championships (2002, 2003, 2005, 2006, 2011) and was state runner-up twice (2004, 2014). She leaves Cave Spring with an overall 338-55-5 record. She was named the state AA coach of the year in 2011.

“We’re sad to see Tamalyn go,” said Steve Spangler, principal of Cave Spring High School. “Over the past 14 seasons, she has led the Knights to many state championship appearances. She will be remembered as one of the most successful coaches ever at Cave Spring and we thank her for her service. No matter where she goes or what she does; she always will be a Knight. We will miss her and we wish her all the best,” Spangler said.
