Musician and Rotary World Peace Fellow David LaMotte will be hosting a special weekend in February centered on a message of peace that will be given through a concert and workshop at Covenant Presbyterian Church.

As a singer/songwriter, LaMotte has 11 CDs under his belt and has performed over 2,500 concerts on four continents.  His passion for peacemaking and conflict resolution led him to Australia where he gained a master’s degree in International Relations, Peace, and Conflict Resolution from the University of Queensland, Brisbane.

LaMotte’s interest in “world-changing” has inspired him and his wife to found and direct a non-profit organization benefitting education in Guatemala.  He has also served as chair for the AFSC Nobel Peace Prize Nominating Committee and is currently serving as a consultant on Peace and Justice issues for the North Carolina Council of Churches.

In 2014, LaMotte published a book entitled, Worldchanging 101: Challenging the Myth of Powerlessness, in which he encourages people to explore what it means to make a positive impact in the world and work for the common good.

LaMotte is no stranger to the Roanoke Valley.  His family moved here in 1984 and he graduated from Cave Spring High School in 1986, before going on to James Madison University.  He spent some time working at K92 as a late night DJ during his years in Roanoke as well.  LaMotte and his family currently reside in Black Mountain, North Carolina.

The concert performance is on Friday February 12, at 7:30 PM, at Covenant Presbyterian Church.  Doors will open at 7:00 PM. The cost of the concert is $10.00 at the door (checks may be made to Covenant Presbyterian Church).   On Saturday February 13, 10:00 AM at Covenant, David will lead his “Worldchanging 101” workshop.  There will be a lunch following for those who would like to attend. (A box lunch will be provided: $10.00 per person.)

To RSVP for the workshop and lunch go to, www.covroanoke.org, or call the church at 989-3314, by February 8th.
