Cavaliers in the next two as the Titans came away with the 25-8; 25-19; 25-17 volleyball win Thursday night in the Titan gym.

Carroll County looked to have bus-lag in the opener as Hidden Valley scored the set’s first eight points, and led 16-3 before securing the 17-point winner.

The Cavaliers hung around in the second set, trailing only 16-11 and 23-19 before the Titans scored the final two points to close it out.

Carroll County trailed 18-16 in the third when Hidden Valley went on a 7-1 run, finished off by a Georgia Farthing serve that was the match-clincher.

“They were just faster than us,” Carroll County head coach Cindy Edwards said after the match. “We had to adjust in the second two sets, but it’s hard when you’re not used to playing this caliber of team. We were right there a couple times, then Hidden Valley just put it down. River Ridge volleyball is a beast.”

“Carroll County has a very good team,” Hidden Valley junior Drew Freeland noted outside the Titan locker room. “They were very scrappy and it kept them in the game. We passed the ball well tonight, but we could have been more consistent. Out team has more experience this year, so we’re looking for big things.”

Bre Lockhart led the Titan dominance at the net with 11 kills, while Freeland and Farthing each added 9 slams. Freeland put up 32 assists.

The scrappy Cavs were paced by seniors Morgan Tompkins and Torilyn Reavis, both slamming down six kills past the Titan defense.
