Mill Mountain Theatre announced that a Chicago actor, comedian and improvisation performer has joined its teaching faculty for the fall semester, which begins Sept. 8.

Jamie Campbell will teach Adult Acting, Middle School Acting, and an Improv and Sketch Comedy class for high-school students in the semester that runs through Oct. 28.  The classes will meet weekly.  He will also be an educator for Mill Mountain Theatre’s outreach programs to The West End Center for Youth and the YMCA Magic Place.

The Improv and Sketch Comedy class is “for students interested in writing comic material and performing in a comedy ensemble,” said Anna Kimmell, director of education for MMT Conservatory.  Students will learn improvisation, stand-up performance and storytelling.  The class will culminate on Oct. 28 in a live comedy performance that is entirely written and performed by students, she said.

Campbell is a faculty member of The ComedySportz Theatre’s Training Center and has taught workshops through The Annoyance Theatre, both in Chicago.  His work has been featured in film and television.

MMT Conservatory is the education wing of Mill Mountain Theatre offering three semesters annually of classes for children and adults in acting, dance, voice, musical theatre and theatre technology.  It enrolls about 350 students each year.  Enrollment is open and financial assistance is available to students who demonstrate the need to pay tuition and fees.

MMT education programs are supported by grants from the cities of Roanoke and Salem, the County of Roanoke, the Sam and Marion Golden Helping Hand Foundation, National Endowment for the Arts, Wells Fargo Foundation and the Virginia Commission for the Arts.
