Local Artist is Right on Track with New Exhibit

611 Art“To me a good piece of art is something that the artist is willing to share with the world and that people respond to.” Phillip Barrett, Jr. should have no trouble getting plenty of positive response to his new photography assemblage, ‘Class J 611 Collection’, which he will share exclusively at 2nd helpings Gallery next month.

On July 11 from 1-3 pm, Barrett will be displaying never before seen photographs of The Spirit of Roanoke, The 611, as it roared back home on May 30. In addition, an array of his other railroad prints and canvases guaranteed to catch the eye of any railroad enthusiast will be featured in the exhibit.

Barrett’s other popular works featuring several of Roanoke’s most treasured icons will be on display and for sale as well.

Barrett reminisces on early memories of creating art. “I started out drawing cartoon characters in Elementary School. It wasn’t until college when I became really interested in photography and digital art. I enjoy creating images that people can relate to and admire. With the combination of photography and digital art, I am able to share my vision with others.”

The event is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be provided complimentary by 2nd Helpings Café. ‘Class J 611 Collection’ will be on display at 2nd Helpings Gallery for the entire month of July at 2nd Helpings, a ministry of the Roanoke Rescue Mission.
