“Go Red For Women” Luncheon Raises Nearly $28,000

More than 180 local men and women attended the 2015 Roanoke Go Red For Women Luncheon on Thursday, May 21 at Hotel Roanoke, raising nearly $28,000 to prevent and fight heart disease in women.

Attendees visited exhibitor tables, received free health screenings, heard inspirational speakers, enjoyed a delectable lunch and learned how to prevent heart disease for themselves and their families. All funds raised through the Roanoke Go Red For Women Luncheon benefit heart disease and stroke research and prevention education for women.

The inspirational program included the 2015 Roanoke Go Red Luncheon Chair, Raquel Rothe, Dr. Jeffrey Todd, a Carilion Clinic Cardiologist, who served as the 2015 Keynote Speaker, Patty Maze, a local survivor of a “Widow Maker” heart attack at 56 years old shared her story, and Glory Rogers, a local 12 year old who saved her grandfather’s life by using Hands-Only CPR, shared her story. The event was emceed by Jean Jadhon of WDBJ7.

Heart disease is the No. 1 killer of women in the United States and it does not discriminate. One in every three women in the U.S.—approximately one woman every minute—loses her life to heart disease. However, 80% of cardiac events in women are preventable.
