The Cave Spring High School softball team has been one of the top VHSL programs in recent years.

Wednesday afternoon in the Cave Spring gym, the Knights’ tradition continued as two of its standout players signed letters of intent to continue to play at the college level.

All-State players Cassi Parulis and Kylie Kent inked their decision to be a key part of a pair of college teams looking for exceptional talent.

Parulis will attend New York University in lower Manhattan where she will be part of the team’s first year in NCAA women’s softball.

The school’s location in Greenwich Village was the perfect fit for Parulis, who has family roots in New Jersey and is planning to pursue a major in film with a goal as being a movie or television director.

Parulis, a versatile player who has been successful this year as Cave Spring’s starting pitcher, as well as a first baseman and outfielder, also considered George Mason before deciding on NYU.

“NYU is a great school with high academic standards,” Parulis said Wednesday. “The fact that it’s a new softball program with all the opportunities in New York City sealed the deal. I’m really excited about my future with NYU.”

Kent, known for her exceptional hitting and defensive prowess as a shortstop for Cave Spring, will attend Concord University in Athens, West Virginia.

“I got a lot of attention from their coach at our state championship win in 2013 at Radford,” Kent said Wednesday. “It’s a small school where you can walk everywhere. For me, it was a perfect fit.”

Kent will join another current Cave Spring senior, Abby Beatty, who earlier committed to Concord softball.

Kent also considered George Mason and Lynchburg during her college search.
