Roanoke Mountain Adventures isn’t waiting for its new leased home at Wasena Station – the old train station and former Virginia Museum of Transportation site – to be remodeled before they open. The outfitters company, which will offer guided outdoor adventures as well as bike, kayak, and canoe rentals, etc. will set up shop in the River House Building, near the Wasena Tap Room, starting April 1.

Co-owner James Revercomb (his father Jim is the other owner) has moved back from Jackson Hole, Wyoming where he was also in the outdoor outfitters business, to help start the business.

As for Wasena Station, all the permits are in place and construction is underway (the building will also feature space for a food vendor); Revercomb estimates, however, that it may be May or June before they can get into the renovated building and with spring approaching the time to be open is sooner than that.

Look for mountain bike and greenway “cruisers” for rent, as well as paddleboards, kayaks and the like; Roanoke Mountain Adventures will even trailer your rented boat to a part of the Roanoke River where it might be easier to launch – or if your car is too small to transport it.

Revercomb figures they’ll be at the River House in about two months. “We’re really excited to get into that building [Wasena Station], but it’s in a flood zone and there are additional things that need to be done,” he said.

So far the buzz for Roanoke Mountain Adventures has been good, lots of positive feedback with people saying or writing online that, “We’ve been waiting for something like this in Roanoke,” adds Revercomb.

There have also been lots of questions about what Roanoke Mountain Adventures will offer and some “synergy,” said Revercomb, with other like-minded businesses – although there are no other outfitters in the Roanoke Valley on the scale promised by his company.

“We’re excited to get up and running,” said the young entrepreneur.
