Roanoke’s professional theatre has announced auditions for its entire 2015 season, including three main-stage productions of musicals and drama and one concert of the new Mill Mountain Music series.

Auditions on Feb. 13 and 14 are for adult roles only.  Auditions for children and youth performers will be held separately in March.  Performers who are members of Actors’ Equity Assn. and non-members are being asked to audition:

  • Friday, Feb. 13, 2015 between 4 and 7 p.m. and on Saturday, Feb. 14 between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m.
  • All auditions will be in Mill Mountain Theatre’s Rehearsal Hall, on the third floor of Center on Church, 20 Church Ave. East in downtown Roanoke.
  • Actors should prepare 32 bars of a musical theatre selection that best fits the show they are interested in. Those interested in the drama should prepare a monologue in the style of the show.  A dance call will be held at the end of both days.
  • Before coming at an audition actors should submit a headshot and resume and request an audition appointment by email to [email protected]. Note “Roanoke Audition” in the email’s subject line.

The season includes roles for singers, dancers and actors in:

  • Hairspray, a musical about a teenage girl trying to achieve her dream of performing on a TV dance show. The story is set in the 1960s and has 13 roles for singers and dancers.  It will run at MMT April 29 to May 17, 2015.
  • Opry Divas, a one-night concert featuring the music of women who have changed the face of Country Music in America: Dolly Parton, Patsy Cline, Tammy Wynette, Carrie Underwood and Shania Twain. This production on June 6, 2015 requires one signer who can also play the guitar.
  • On Golden Pond, a classic drama about an elderly couple who planned to enjoy a restful summer at their lakefront cottage but instead cope with the flux of a middle-aged, divorced daughter who drops off her finance’s teenage son on the way to Europe with the new boyfriend. Three roles are available for audition. The production will be on stage Sept. 30 to Oct. 11, 2015.
  • 42nd Street tells the story of a naïve young actress with a dream of performing on Broadway and becomes a celebration of song and tap dancing. There are 17 major roles and ensemble parts for auditions.  The show runs Dec. 2-20, 2015.

Mill Mountain Theatre also will produce the Young Performers’ Edition of Beauty and the Beast in early August, 2015 and will audition children and teenagers as performers.  Auditions for those parts will be held on March 13 and 14 for children in grades K through 12.  Details of those auditions will be announced later and more information is available by email from millmountain.org/auditions.
