If you have ever wanted to be a fireman, now is your chance. Roanoke Fire-EMS is holding a Citizens Fire Academy and they are accepting applications this week. The academy will run for seven weeks starting on Monday, October 13 through Monday, November 24, 2014.
Each week will feature a different aspect of the fire department and at the end you will be certified in CPR and basic first aid.
Week 1: Welcome and history of Roanoke Fire and EMS
Week 2 & 3: Basic first aid and CPR with certification
Week 4: Fire prevention, public education and emergency management
Week 5: Firefighting and burn building simulator
Week 6: Vehicle extraction and driving simulator
Week 7: Graduation
This free academy is open only to residents of Roanoke city and there is a limit of 15 participants.
