Legends Of The Game – Dick Kepley

DSC_0651 (800x464)Monday night at Roanoke Country Club, the Roanoke Valley Sports Club presented legendary Roanoke basketball coach Dick Kepley its “Legends of the Game” award during the club’s monthly meeting. Kepley had a long and successful coaching career career at both Jefferson High School and Patrick Henry High School where he compiled a 338-130 record at the two schools.

Kepley played basketball at Jefferson and was a member of a Magician state championship team before continuing his college career at the University of North Carolina. He was drafted by the St. Louis Hawks.

In 1969, Kepley coached Jefferson High to the VHSL state championship.

He is seen here (second from right) along with (L-R) son Drew Kepley, legendary sports announcer Dave Ross, friend Pat Sales and son Chuck Kepley.

Drew and Chuck, both of whom played for their father at Patrick Henry, continued their playing careers at The University of Virginia and Wake Forest, respectfully.
