Gary Laroux’s back nine charge was the difference Tuesday afternoon at Ashley Plantation as Laroux used a solid round of 71 to win the Roanoke Valley Golf Hall of Fame Seniors tournament.

His two-round 139 total was good for a two-shot win over Hidden Valley’s Jack Allara and fellow Blacksburg teammate Roger Young.
Those three had entered the final round in a 3-way tie atop the leader board after rounds of 68 at Blue Hills in Monday’s first round play.
By the turn, Roanoker Dicky Linkous was crashing the party of the three leaders. His birdie on the par-5 15th hole pushed his round to 4-under-par and the lead at minus-5.
Laroux, playing two groups behind, responded with an eagle-3 on the 15th after his second shot from over 200 yards out ate up the pin and was followed by a four-footer to put him 5-under for the tournament.
But, Linkous ran astray down the stretch, including a bogey at 16 after missing a short putt and a disasterous triple-bogey 7 at the short par-4 17th that began with a tee shot out of bounds and concluded with a missed tap-in for double bogey.
Meanwhile, Allara and Young were hanging around near the top of the leader board. Allara made a late charge, but it was too little, too late as Laroux finished par-par-par to put the winner’s trophy in his corner.
Linkous’ misstep down the stretch left him in 4th place, four shots back at 143. Mark Funderburke finished alone at fifth with a 144 total.
In the super seniors division, Evans Deane used a final round 73 at Ashley to overtake first round leader Jack Tuttle for a two-shot win. B.H. Rakestraw (147) finished third, while Woody Deans and Danny Turner tied for fourth at 148.
In the senior team competition, Blacksburg edged runner-up Hidden Valley by five shots. Hunting Hills finished third with Ole Monterey fourth.
Things were much tighter in the super seniors team play where Blacksburg and Roanoke Country Club tied based on the scores of the top two players. Reverting to the third player as a tie-breaker, things were still knotted before the fourth player results gave Blacksburg a 2-shot victory. Mariners Landing took third with Hanging Rock coming in fourth.
