North Cross and Hargrave scramble for a loose ball Tuesday afternoon as the Raiders dominated in the 22-8 win.

Lacrosse fans liking offense came away with smiles on their faces Tuesday afternoon at Thomas Field on the North Cross campus.

The Hargrave Tigers must have felt like they had been in a shooting gallery.

Taking control midway through the first quarter, North Cross hammered the visitors from Chatham 22-8 for the unexpectedly easy VIC victory.

“We totally respect Hargrave and expected a dogfight today,” North Cross head coach Stephen Belderes said after the game. “This was a great effort and big win for us. Anytime you beat Hargrave it’s a good win. The senior leadership stood out today.”

Senior Penn Draper got North Cross on the board first, scoring nearly 2 minutes into the game for the 1-0 Raider advantage.

Hargrave answered with two straight scores to take their only lead of the contest at 2-1 with 8:30 left in the opening 12 minutes. Then, the wheels fell off for the Tigers.

Thirty-five seconds after the second Tiger score, Chris Pollock netted the game equalizer and the Raiders never looked back.

North Cross added 4 more goals by the end of the opening quarter and netted the first score to start the second for a 7-2 lead. Hargrave outscored the Raiders 3-1 over the next 6 1/2 minutes to close to 8-5, but North Cross closed the half with three goals to go to the break up 11-5.

The Raiders effectively settled the outcome by scoring four times in the third quarter while the Raider defense held the Tigers to a single tally. North Cross kept the pedal down with four straight scores to open the final frame before a Tiger score with 6:01 left stopped the bleeding at 19-7. The Raiders netted their 20th score on a laser by freshman Massey Semler with 3:57 left and outscored Hargrave 2-1 the rest of the way for the final fourteen-goal margin.

Draper finished with five goals and 8 assists, while Pollock netted 3 goals and provided 7 assists. Junior middle Isaiah Harris pelted the Tigers with 4 goals and 4 assists.

The blowout allowed North Cross to split duties in the pipes between senior Kyler Stemen and sophmore Jack Irons. The pair combined for 12 saves.
