Southwest Virginia Ballet Presents Family Classic “Coppelia”

With a cast of 53, which includes 10 graduating seniors (all of which have plans to begin their college education or pursue a professional career in dance or related fields), 3 Acts, 76 costumes, 2 leading ladies dancing the role of Swanilda, 6 mischievous girlfriends, 6 life-sized dolls, and Dr. Coppelius, the quirky and easily fooled doll maker. Audiences will enjoy the artistic excellence which has become synonymous with Southwest Virginia Ballet and be entertained by the comedy of this lighthearted classic.

According to Nancy Kelderhouse, executive director, Southwest Virginia Ballet is committed to making the performing arts experience available to all ages, from all walks of life. In addition to the school outreach performance of Coppelia, at least 100 public performance tickets will be made available to clients of human service organizations from across Southwest Virginia.

“SVB dancers and Board of Directors are delighted to have the opportunity to share the joy of the performing arts with individuals and families who may be going through difficult times or those without the means to attend this classical family favorite,” said Kelderhouse. In addition to outreach ticketing, Southwest Virginia Ballet has partnered with The Salvation Army to draw “off-season” attention to their “Forgotten Angels”, part of their annual Angel Tree program. Audiences are encouraged to bring unwrapped gifts to the theater for collection or to make a purchase from Southwest Virginia Ballet’s Boutique table for donation. Discounts will be offered to those making purchases for donation.
