Cave Spring stayed undefeated in River Ridge District volleyball play Tuesday night as the Knights outlasted the visitors from Blacksburg 25-19; 25-20; 25-22.

Blacksburg stayed within striking distance most of the night, but Cave Spring’s power at the net proved to be the deciding factor that allowed the Knights to pull away late in both games two and three.
“We got off to a slow start and had trouble reading their sets,” Cave Spring head coach Tamalyn Tanis noted afterward. “Blacksburg is a good team and they were able to hang around.”
The Knights, who have yet to lose a regular season best-of-five game match, brought plenty of energy to the court that kept the Bruins off balance when it mattered.
Cave Spring broke away from a 7-7 tie in game one to pull out to a 20-14 lead. The Knights traded points down the stretch for the 25-19 win. Game two saw Blacksburg up 18-14 before the Cave Spring net play kicked in to get things tied at 20. The Knights then scored five straight points for the 25-20 victory. Game three was tied at 12 when Cave Spring tallied 4 straight points off the serve of sophomore libero Fallon Delp. Although the Bruins rallied to knot the score at 21, a Charity Klimaitis kill scattered the Blacksburg defense to help propel a 4-1 burst for the 25-22 clincher.
Charity Klimaitis led the Knights power attack with 11 kills, while Shannon Holsinger added 9 kills and both Tessa Klimaitis and Piper Roe each providing 6. Senior Olivia Sass backed up the Cave Spring power with 34 assists and 4 service aces.
Cave Spring travels to Carroll County later this week, leading to the much-anticipated first meeting of the season with rival Hidden Valley next Tuesday night at the Titan gym. When asked about the buildup for the matchup between the perennial Southwest County powerhouses, Tanis was matter-of fact. “It usually comes down to whether we come to the match excited or relaxed.”
