The Floyd Auto Fair is scheduled to return to Floyd County’s Chantilly Farm on the weekend of August 17-18, 2013. The increasingly popular two-day event, organized by KC Murphy and Erik Herdman of “Chasing SS Cars,” will focus on classic cars, trucks, rat-rods, motorcycles, and classic car parts.
Trophies are given in a variety of categories ranging from very early models up to modern day entries.
All judged categories, as well as the popular sound-off competition, will take place on Saturday. The Sunday portion of the show is being billed as a classic car cruise-in and bike show. Three one of a kind “rod and rotor trophies” will be given out to the best in show for the Sunday cruise-in.
One of the show’s most unique and successful ventures to date has been a classic parts swap meet. Vendors sell everything from classic parts to memorabilia and project cars. Spaces are still available for those interested in selling parts at the event.
“It’s very encouraging that we had parts vendors that participated in the show last year who sold more parts in the first few hours of our show then they had sold all day at the Charlotte or Bristol Motor Speedway shows,” said K.C. Murphy of Chasing SS Cars, commenting on the show’s rapid growth.
As a new addition to the day’s festivities, organizers have added several local rock bands that will be entertaining event goers at the Chantilly Farm amphitheater on both days of the show. Casino Cruze will perform on Saturday and Sunday, with an additional performance from local favorites, The Remedy, on Saturday. The popular Richmond based classic car magazine, Dames, Planes and Automobiles, is also scheduled to be at the show on Sunday.
Children’s activities are being coordinated by a local troop of Girl Scouts and parking is being conducted by the Floyd County chapter of the Future Farmer’s of America. Both groups participate in the Floyd Auto Fair as a way to raise additional funds for their organizations.
Food on site will be provided by a variety of vendors including Ray’s Restaurant, Toasted by Casey, and Bootleg BBQ. Homemade ice cream, kettle corn and snow cones will also be available on both days of the event.
Chantilly Farm’s Jason Gallimore commented: “It’s been amazing watching this show grow in popularity, not only here in the Floyd area, but from a regional perspective as well.”
Show participants travel from as far as South Carolina and Pennsylvania to take part in the show, many of whom are making their first trip to the Floyd area.
“This really is a unique venue for a classic car show, so many of which take place in parking lots or more urban environments. We always get so much feedback from attendees who really enjoy the tranquility and natural beauty of having the show at a venue like Chantilly Farm,” added Gallimore.
Adult tickets are $6 per day and children 12 and under will be admitted free. Gates open at 8:00am on both days, with Saturday’s show ending at 8:00pm and Sunday’s show ending at 5:00pm.
Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets for enjoying the music. Coolers are also welcome.
