Jefferson Center strives every day to create a solid foundation for the performing arts. As a 501(c)3 organization, it specializes in maximizing the use of Shaftman Performance Hall by programming world class artists, including those in its Star City, Jazz, and Family Series. Additionally, Jefferson Center focuses on its mission, established more than two decades ago, to ensure that Jefferson Center is a community space.

“Our goal is to make the world’s finest artists, like Bela Fleck or Pat Metheny, as accessible to this community as possible,” said Cyrus Pace, Executive Director at Jefferson Center. “Thanks to generous supporters, grantors, and sponsors we are able to offer patrons in this region the opportunity to see multi-Grammy Award winning artists for a fraction of what it would cost in other major metropolitan areas. It’s these supporters that allow us to offer $5 children’s tickets to all of our Family Series shows and that allow every student in the region the opportunity for inspiration from these great artists through our half-price student pricing initiatives.”

When the 1920’s era Jefferson High School was saved from demolition and transformed into the arts center it is today, organizers stayed focused on managing the space respectfully and efficiently, giving this region every opportunity to host sustainable, community productions in a one-of-a-kind venue. That focus continues today with hundreds of events such as regional concerts, graduations, community theater productions, opera performances, business retreats, and more.

Jefferson Center is a good example of a non-profit that has successfully navigated a public/private collaboration and in turn delivers tangible results for the community. Wise investments, thoughtful donations, and more than a decade of world-class concerts have led to enumerable memories, broad community revitalization, and a cultural vitality that is appealing and attractive to prospective residents when they consider calling Western Virginia home.
