13th Annual Armed Forces Day Parade to Honor WWII Veterans

The 13th Annual Armed Forces Day Parade will be held on Saturday, May 18 at 10:00 a.m.  Following a brief opening ceremony, the parade will proceed from the Virginia Veterans Care Center; down Roanoke Boulevard; and enter the Salem VA Medical Center campus west gate.

Marching units will include antique military vehicles, 29th Infantry Division Band, Kazim Shriners, local ROTC Units, former wrestling favorites Jimmy Valiant and Chief Navajo, Veteran Service Organizations, Rocky Top Twirlers, D-Day Memorial Foundation, and many others.

Grand Marshalls include all WWII Veterans including Russ Robinson, former B17 Pilot, and posthumous honor recognition to Dempsey Morgan, former Tuskegee Airman, and Bob Slaughter, instrumental in efforts to build the D-Day Memorial in Bedford.

Any and all Veterans are invited and will be seated in a special VIP area to view the opening ceremony and parade at the Virginia Veterans Care Center.
