VMI Football Team to Scrimmage at Fleming Stadium

VMIThe Williamson Road Area Business Association and City of Roanoke are bringing the Virginia Military Institute’s 2013 Keydet football team to Roanoke. WRABA and the City of Roanoke are hosting a Keydets scrimmage and other ativities at William Fleming High School Stadium on Saturday April 20, 2013. Events begin at 10 AM with the scrimmage Noon to 2 PM.

The events that day will include free JV and varsity student athlete clinics. The clinics will incorporate a seminar for parents and athletes on “Rhythm and Balance in Sports and Life.” Admission to the practice scrimmage and VMI Alumni tailgating is free.

The Roanoke Chapter of the VMI Alumni Association and the Fellowship for Christian Athletes have worked together in planning this event. The VMI Roanoke Chapter is excited to have the 2013 Keydet Football Team back in Roanoke. “We are very proud of our VMI Student Athletes, and this great Roanoke Valley Community we are part of,” said Al Soltis, Roanoke Chapter VMI Alum President & FCA Chair. “The Fellowship of Christian Athletes is additionally excited to partner with Spectrum Sports Academy in presenting a free Speed and Agility Clinic with Jamie Price the Fastest Man in Roanoke.

 WRABA’s Executive Director, Wendy Jones, siad she is proud to have this Keydet day finally come to fruition after working on it for nearly five years. “It will mean so much for Williamson Road Area Businesses, Roanoke, the student athletes, VMI and the VMI Alum,” said Jones.

VMI Coach Philip Woods said he appreciates the opportunity. “Our team is very excited to be able to bring our practice to Roanoke. It is a great opportunity to mix and show our appreciation to our loyal Keydet supporters in the beautiful Roanoke Valley. Roanoke is our closest city and our alumni are very loyal. We certainly want to thank William Fleming High School, WRABA, all the Sponsors , the fine people and businesses of Roanoke for making this day happen. We welcome everyone to join our team in a day of preparation for the 2013 Football Season.”
